Abstract This article reviews a series of typical studies on enterprise spinoff, summarizes the fruits and shortcomings that have been achieved from aspects of spinoff’s concept, classification, causes, development stages, success factors and the relationship among spinoff firms, their parent organizations and the clusters. It analyzes the hot debate issues and main viewpoints and puts forward some proposals for future theoretical study.
