Abstract This study explores the paths and mechanisms through which enterprises achieve growth under institutional pressure by integrating new institutional theory, resource-based theory, and enterprise growth theory. Based on the data of Chinese manufacturing enterprises listed on the GEM from 2010 to 2023, this study examines the impact of institutional pressure on organizational growth and its underlying mechanism. It reveals that different types of institutional pressure(coercive pressure, normative pressure, and mimetic pressure)have a significant positive impact on enterprise growth. Moreover, R&D investment and digital transformation are identified as key influencing paths, playing a mediating role in the relationship between institutional pressure and enterprise growth.
