Abstract Based on the social cognitive theory, this study explores the mechanism and boundary condition of the impact of self-leadership on proactive service behavior among gig workers. Through data analysis of 353 questionnaires collected at three phases, we get the results as follows: Gig workers’ self-leadership has a positive effect on their proactive service behavior; Role breadth self-efficacy mediates the positive relationship between gig workers’ self-leadership and proactive service behavior; Perceived algorithmic behavioral constraint not only mitigates the positive relationship between gig workers’ self-leadership and role breadth self-efficacy, but also mitigates the indirect effect of role breadth self-efficacy in the relationship between gig workers’ self-leadership and proactive service behavior.
