Abstract Employing the theory of knowledge-based view and combining the data of listed enterprises in China’s manufacturing industry from 2010 to 2020, we empirically examine the impact of digital technology application on the quality of corporate green innovation. The results indicate that, first, the application of digital technology enhances the quality of green innovation through two channels: improving companies’ knowledge-searching capabilities and promoting R&D cooperation. Second, senior executive environmental cognition and superstar inventors have a positive moderating effect on the relationship between digital technology and green innovation quality. Third, heterogeneity analysis shows that the enhancement effect of digital technology application on corporate green innovation quality is more obvious in regions with stronger environmental protection and enterprises in technology-intensive industries.
