Abstract Based on motivation theory and social network theory, this study starts from the phenomenon of knowledge sharing among members in open source software projects, applies grounded theory, and specifically adopts the methods of participatory observation, structured interview, archives, and literature research, a conceptual model of knowledge sharing mechanism among members in open source software projects is constructed. This study puts forward a theoretical model of “supply push-demand pull” among members. It holds that developers and users are the two main subjects of members’ contributions to open source software projects. Participative motivation, social network, and cultural identity as the developer’s supply side, and user innovation acts as the demand side, jointly affecting the intermediate variable of knowledge sharing and then affecting the project performance of open source software.
