Abstract Based on self-determination theory, this study investigates the effect of climate for autonomy on employee psychological ownership and voice behavior as well as the moderating effect of cultural values. The results from Chinese and non-Eastern-Asian samples show that individualism positively moderates the positive relationship between climate for autonomy and job-based psychological ownership and the mediating effect of job-based psychological ownership on the relationship between climate for autonomy and job-based voice. Collectivism positively moderates the positive relationship between climate for autonomy and organization-based ownership and the mediating effect of organization-based psychological ownership on the relationship between climate for autonomy and organization-based voice.
