Abstract Based on the holistic and dynamic perspective of systems, this study endeavors to explore innovative solution to paradoxes by taking the tension between epidemic prevention and work resumption as the focal paradox. The diachronic analysis involves the two sides of unity-of-opposites into a system consisted of multiple components, through which the dynamic process and intrinsic motor underlying the development of paradoxical system are comprehensively and deeply depicted and explained. Via longitudinal analytical induction on the six-phase evolution process, the focal paradox is put into the embedded multi-dimensional framework that contains the reactor, mediator, resultant, catalyst and non-present agent. Thus, the study unfolds the evolutionary trajectory and mechanism driving the change of paradox tension in a spiraling process governed by the dialectical logic of “negation of the negation”. This study elaborates and extends the research on the long-chain pattern of solution to paradoxes, and embodies the distinct efficacy of Chinese traditional philosophical wisdom in solving challenging problems in practice.
