Abstract Based on millennial’s “self-centric” personal trait, this study proposes a pair of competitive hypotheses to investigate the impact of millennial directors on CSR performancewith the perspective of institution unconformity.A further research is conducted to test how social and political pressure moderate the relationship between millennial directors and CSR performance. With a sample of Chinese listed firms during 2009 to 2017, the experimental results indicate that millennial directors, compared with pre-millennial directors, decrease firm’s CSR performance. Meanwhile, the negative relationship between millennial directors and CSR performance is more significant under the pressure of social media.
