Abstract This study uses logical deduction and typical case analysis to investigate the ambidexterity attribute of platform enterprises compared with traditional enterprises, finding that platform enterprises embedded with ambidexterity surpass traditional corporate social responsibility governance in multiple dimensions such as governance goals, functions, and processes. It further analyzes how platform corporate social responsibility (P-CSR) innovation could contribute to the social governance in the context of COVID-19 pandemic, finding that digital platform enterprises embedded with ambidexterity could empower the emergency management and social governance by providing new organizational carrier, governance participants, governance processes and governance paradigms. It finally shows prospects of the future research trend of the P-CSR. This study provides both China and the world with novel insights towards the digital platform innovation governance, social governance innovation after COVID-19 pandemic and the modernization of national governance capability.
