The Impact of Leader-Member Exchange on Industrial Workers’ Engagement |

Abstract Using self-categorization theory and multilevel data from 444 industrial workers in 64 teams, the present study examines the relationship between leader-member exchange, perceived insider status and industrial workers’ engagement. The moderating effect of household register on the effectiveness of leader-member exchange is analyzed, and on the basis, the joint moderation effects of household register and team chaxu atmosphere are probed. The results indicate that: (1) Perceived insider status mediates leader-member exchange and industrial workers’ engagement relationship. (2) Compared with urban workers, the positive relationship between leader-member exchange and engagement is weaker for migrant workers through disrupting perceived insider status. (3)Team chaxu atmosphere interacted with household register and leader-member exchange affect industrial workers’ engagement through disrupting perceived insider status.
