Abstract  Influence of member heterogeneity on team innovation performance is investigated by using knowledge profile and Closeness as intermediaries and team identity as a moderator. Results of regression analysis show that the direct effect of member heterogeneity toward team innovation performance is not significant, yet the two mediators of knowledge profile and Closeness play main roles. Member heterogeneity increases team knowledge profile and reduces its closeness. Furthermore, knowledge profile is positive related to team innovation performance, and the closeness positively regulates the positive relationship between knowledge profile and team innovation performance. At last, team identity positively regulates the positive relationship between member heterogeneity and knowledge profile, and negatively regulates the negative relationship between member heterogeneity and team closeness.
