Abstract Knowledge published in different periodicals is regarded as heterogeneous information, but the connected group in the egonetwork of a periodical is considered as one type of heterogeneous information. The crosscitation network of 30 important periodicals selected by Department of Management Sciences of National Science Foundation of China is investigated. Structural holes of the crosscitations are analyzed from three aspects, i.e. heterogeneous knowledge’s diffusion, assimilation and flow with social network analysis method. The results indicate that periodical of Management World holds more structural hole positions. Their communication with other heterogeneous knowledge is easier and the paths are relatively efficient and robust, because quantity and quality of their knowledge communication are seldom influenced by a specific periodical.
