Abstract Cognitive social structures introduce the individual cognitive to the social network analysis, which is a new branch in social network research. This paper reviews the concept, measurement，empirical research and case study of cognitive social networks, analyzes problems existing in the literature, and provides a number of recommendations in method and content.
