Abstract The institutional and market factors constrain the choices of managerial mode of horizontal integration in Chinese enterprises during the economic transition. Facing these special scenes, Chinese enterprises that implement horizontal integration strategy make feasible alternative in the choice and design of managerial mode. Against the particular scenes and managerial practice of Chinese enterprises, this paper proposes the contingent dimensions of managerial mode adopted by Chinese horizontal integration enterprises, analyses the main factors which affect the choice of managerial mode adopted by Chinese horizontal integration enterprises from the Institutionbased/Marketbased /Resourcebased perspectives, rationalizes the logical relationship between contingent dimensions and scenes of managerial mode adopted by Chinese horizontal integration enterprises, and constructs a theory model of managerial mode adopted by Chinese horizontal integration enterprises.
