Abstract The Incentive mechanism is essential in the human resource management in universities and colleges. This article discusses the quantitative criateria of the incentive mechanism for university faculty in China based upon its status quo. Based upon the behavior classification theory, the article proposes the binary incentive mechanism centering on “capital salary” and “behavior salary” and makes the structural analysis on it. It also studies the drawbacks of the fixed salary model and the appraisal index system of the binary incentive mechanism. The conclusions drawn are expected to be useful in the human resource management in universities and colleges.
