Abstract The study uses information processing theory and upper echelons theory to investigate the choice demand of international diversification on top management characteristics (such as age, tenure, education level and its heterogeneity and team size). The research results suggest that a firm' internationalization strategy implementation indeed needs a top management team characterized by qualities of higher internationalization degree, shorter tenure, smaller heterogeneity and bigger team size and heterogeneity of educational level. Effective institution building and operation management are critical factors ensuring the right selection of top management team implementing the internationalization strategy.
