To identify important members is a crucial problem in social network analysis. Indexes that are now used to measure the importance of members apply only to simple binary social networks, in which the social relation strength can be expressed by 0 or 1. Weights were assigned to social links according to the pairwise relation strength and a new index of the measure was given which is applicable to highlight important members embedded in an edge-weight network. An application in an organization network is also proposed. Results show that in edge-weight social networks the new measure works well in identifying some important members with which attribute-based centrality measures have difficulties.
