Abstract:Based on the need-supply fit perspective, this study tested the relationship between job autonomy need-supply fit and employee creativity via positive affect and the moderating role of emotional stability in the above relationship. By analyzing 243 dyads of employees and leaders, the results of polynomial regression combining with response surface analysis show that:job autonomy need-supply fit has a positive relationship with employees’ positive affect. In the case of need-supply fit, positive affect is higher when the need and supply are aligned at a high level than when they are aligned at a low level. In the case of misfit, positive affect is lower when the level of autonomy need is higher than that of autonomy supply as compared to when the level of autonomy supply is higher than that of autonomy need. Positive affect mediates the relationship between job autonomy need-supply fit and creativity. Furthermore, employees’ emotional stability negatively moderates the relationship between job autonomy need-supply fit and positive affect as well as the indirect relationship between job autonomy need-supply fit and creativity via positive affect.
