Abstract：Based on the data of listed manufacturing enterprises in Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges from 2014 to 2019, this study examines the mechanism and relationship between the performance below the aspiration level of superior manufacturing companies and the response degree of digital transformation. The results show that the increase of operating pressure will lead to dynamic changes in the transformation needs and capabilities of enterprises, and make the response degree of digital transformation of enterprises first increase and then decrease, that is, an inverted U-shaped relationship. Besides, industrial digitalization strengthens the relationship between performance below the aspiration level and the degree of response to digital transformation. Further research has found that companies with high-tech and high-political advantages will have a more significant degree of digital transformation under performance below aspiration, while companies with high-tech and low-political advantages will be more sensitive to the regulatory role of industrial digitalization.
