Abstract:Based on the cognitive appraisal theory of emotion, this study explores the mechanism of two dimensions of employees’ perceived underemployment, namely perceived overqualification and perceived no-growth, on their engagement in hybrid entrepreneurship. After controlling the job satisfaction path, the results of the empirical data of 311 hybrid entrepreneurs show that: (1) perceived overqualification, perceived no-growth, and their interaction have a positive effect on work alienation; (2) work alienation positively affect employees’ engagement in hybrid entrepreneurship; (3) work alienation mediates the impact of perceived overqualification, perceived no-growth and their interaction on employees’ engagement in hybrid entrepreneurship. This study extends the theoretical perspective on the research about antecedents of hybrid entrepreneurship, and advances the understanding of the causes and processes of employees’ engagement in hybrid entrepreneurship, which could help organizations to improve their efficiency of human resource use.
