Abstract：In 2020，the Department of Management Science of the National Natural Science Foundation of China（NSFC） has implemented a performance evaluation on the General Program projects and projects of the Fund for Less Developed Regions funded in 2014, the Young Scientists Fund projects funded in 2015. The performance evaluation work involved 1 463 projects from 329 supporting institutions. The performance evaluation carried out the relevant analysis research from the overall situation, classification situation, as well as the influence of subject attributes and project leader characteristics on the performance evaluation results, and counted the performance of the top 10 supporting institutions in participants. The research results show that the quality of projects has continued to rise steadily in the past four years, and quality indicators such as the excellent rate have created new high. Among them, the quality of General Program projects is the most outstanding, and the performance of young scholars under or equal to the age of 35 has become more prominent. In addition, further research discovered that，the project leaders whose participating projects were “more excellent” and “excellent” performed outstandingly in the research conducted by the Department of Management Science in the later period.
