Abstract:In Chinese traditional society, the human’s personality was deeply involved in the context that is entangled with multiple institutional logics. The author comes up with the contextual personality (CP) as a trigger, then elucidates the context’s features from triple perspectives, power-centered, Confucius thoughts, and Chaxu geju, the author also interprets the internal connections of CP and the distinctive context, next, the author explains how the agent of CP displays various action logics in social world. The author argues CP is a gradual constructed and continuous evolving psychological schema which is dominated by power, sided with value trade-off and living purpose. The context of multiple institutional logics could lead the agent to adopt the strategies of legal harmfulness, interpretation on regulated value, and partiality of source allocation, against the common sense, which actually coproduce the huge space and the grey zone for one to use discretionary power. Within it, the agent on one side owns the full perception of institutionalized survival, institutional arbitrage and Value trade-off that looks like an isostructural item of CP, another side in practice, the agent follows the logic of power-centered, the logic of morality-centered, and the hybrid logics of favor(Qing)- reasonableness(Li) -law which coexist and dynamically evolve. As a result, it has a subtle and profound impact on the daily life of Chinese people and the changes in traditional society. The value persistence and context adaptation strategies provide different imaginary spaces and legitimacy basis for historical changes under specific constraints.
