Abstract：In 2019, the Department of Management Sciences of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) has implemented a performance evaluation on the General Program projects and projects of the Fund for Less Developed Regions funded in 2013, and Young Scientists Fund projects funded in 2014. The performance evaluation involves 1 529 projects and 343 supporting institutions. This paper investigates the effects of different funding types, disciplines, project leaders on the performance of projects, and the results show that the performance of projects of the Fund for Less Developed Regions and Young Scientists Fund projects is inferior to that of General Program projects, and young project leaders of the three types of projects perform better. In addition, the performance of the evaluation in 2019 is better than that in previous years, and the overall excellent and good rates of the three types of projects in 2019 are also higher.
