Abstract:Based on the self-determination theory (SDT), this study explored the relationship between ethical leadership and subordinates’proactive behavior, as well as discussed the boundary condition of this relationship. Through the regression analysis on time-lagged data of employees, the results showed that ethical leadership had a significantly positive influence on subordinates’ proactive behavior. The influence of ethical leadership on subordinates’ proactive behavior was stronger when the subordinates’ perceived hierarchical culture was lower. The influence of ethical leadership on subordinates’ proactive behavior was stronger when the subordinates’ perceived communication openness was higher.
