Abstract:The subject attributes of management reflect the fundamental characteristics of knowledge in management. A precise understanding toward these subject attributes can facilitate the research and study of management theories. This article examines how practices influence the subject development of management as well as how practitioners apply managerial knowledge in their work in order to identify and recognize the subject attributes of management. It is proposed that performance orientation is the subject orientation of management. Meanwhile, inspiration is a key attribute that distinguishes management subject from other natural and sociological subjects. This article also discusses other relevant issues in management research.
