Abstract:According to the fitting relationship between supply and demand of informal mentoring, this study divides the mentors into two types: “unsolicited mentor” and “solicited mentor”. Through the empirical analysis of 399 employees from 43 innovation teams in 24 companies, we analyze their different impacts on the leadership emergence based on the person-team fit theory. The results show that the degree of fitting and misfitting between the mentor’s informal mentoring supply and demand respectively has a positive and negative effect on the leadership emergence; the team member exchange relationship is the mediating mechanism that the degree of fitting and misfitting between mentor’s informal mentoring supply and demand affects the leadership emergence; emotional intelligence positively moderates the role of the fitting and misfitting between mentor’s informal mentoring supply and demand on leadership emergence through team member exchange relationship.
