The purpose of creating a discipline of study of management philosophy is to highlight and to clarify the concept of management in our own experience. In the development of humanity, human culture and the communication of humanity, the management behavior is common concern of management science and management philosophy. Unlike science, philosophy explores the most fundamental concepts and categories. It is to answer questions of purposes, processes, standards, values of managerial activities in management, and to show how assessment of value and meaningfulness gives rise to standard of decision and action. Management philosophy can be regarded as a source of management science, also as a critic and a guide of management science. Western management philosophy is based on economy since Adam Smith, whereas Chinese management philosophy is based on ethics since Confucius. Chinese management philosophy has now acquired an ideal status for China today. The Chinese stress on harmony, on virtues, on that everyone should care for others and have respect for others, and on that no one should impose on others one’s own views and beliefs is the core of this management philosophy. This is also the ultimate goal of Chinese management philosophy. Although Theory C is the basic and ideal model of Chinese management philosophy, it can be applied to form a model for China’s designing and planning of economic development and political development.
